Reply to Barbaro being named "Horse of the Year". I think it's important to remember that Barbaro injured himself by crashing through the starting gate; not your average horse injury. The real crime was allowing him to race immediatly afterward. Racing 2 year olds is very risky, but horse owners fear that banning them would hurt the sport. Monty Roberts has some interesting observations about it.
