As long as the "Big Lick" gait is exibited the horse is ABUSED! This gait can not be gotten any other way. Pavlov could teach a dog to salivate when a bell was rung, the trainers of TN Walkers have acheived the same training results. Stop the "Big Lick" and stop the "setting of tails". Both are barbaric practices and not necessary if you know how to train and ride; which 99.999% of Walking Horse trainers, owners, and riders do not know how to do.
